A high-transparency optical augmented reality (AR) lens project has landed in Huangyan Economic Development Zone in Taizhou, Zhejiang province. Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of this year.

The project will be built in two phases over three years by Fanke Technology (Taizhou). The first phase is expected to deliver a technological innovation center and pilot production line in 2027. The second phase will involve a 3.3-hectare production base, targeting an annual output of 100 metric tons of high-purity silicon carbide optical materials by 2028.

The project targets AI glasses and other next-generation smart devices. It will focus on developing high-transparency optical materials for AR glasses and new optical devices. The technical approach combines high-transparency materials with grating etching technology to produce customized AR lenses and help accelerate the adoption of full-color AR lenses.

The project aligns with Huangyan's focus on new materials and functional films, Taizhou's eyewear-frame supply chain, Linhai's eyewear industry, and Huangyan's mold-making capabilities.

Shanghai Fanchuangwei Technology plans to use Shanghai as its research and operations center while developing an industrialization base in Taizhou. Huangyan also aims to connect the project with local suppliers and manufacturers in related sectors to foster an intelligent optics industry cluster.
