The construction of sand sculptures for the 2026 Zhoushan International Sand Sculpture Festival is underway at Nansha scenic area in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, launching a 20-day creation period for large-scale sand artworks that will remain on display until February 2027.

The event, themed "Galloping Horses on Golden Sands," highlights cultural symbolism tied to perseverance and progress. More than 50 sand sculptures are being created, drawing from classical legends, idioms, modern culture, and sports themes, aiming to present the horse as a symbol of determination, loyalty, and vitality through diverse artistic interpretations.

This year's exhibition covers about 10,000 square meters, with the main sculpture increased in scale. Nighttime experiences have also been upgraded, featuring immersive lighting installations designed to extend visitor engagement after dark.

Supporting attractions and activities have been expanded to improve the visitor experience, while new interactive features and themed performances have been introduced, including neon displays, cartoon-style sculptures, and horse-themed photo spots, which are designed to attract families and younger visitors.
