I am truly grateful and deeply honored to be invited by the Zhejiang International Communication Center (ZICC) to participate in the international youth Long March retracing project. This seven-day immersive journey is not merely a historical study tour, but a life-transforming training that reshapes my mindset, strengthens my leadership awareness, and prepares me to become a responsible future leader. As a young African committed to driving positive change and national development in my home country, this experience has cultivated my perseverance, courage, sense of responsibility, and problem-solving spirit. It equips me with the spiritual power to overcome difficulties, embrace challenges, and bring real impact and transformation to my nation in the future.
The Long March is undeniably one of the most extraordinary, heroic, and unprecedented epic journeys in human history. This great strategic march was written in blood, faith, and perseverance, recorded as an unparalleled miracle across global military and human civilization history. More than ninety years ago, countless revolutionary soldiers embarked on an unimaginable journey through freezing snow-capped mountains, barren grasslands, dangerous rivers, and endless harsh terrain. What they accomplished was never just a military retreat, but a glorious spiritual expedition that changed the fate of a nation and continues to inspire the entire world today. For seven unforgettable days, I followed the glorious footsteps of the Red Army across multiple cities, traveling from Fujian to Guizhou and finally arriving in Ningxia. Before this journey, I only knew the Long March through textbooks, documentaries, and historical dramas. I was always touched by those heroic stories, yet all my understanding remained abstract and distant. However, walking on this sacred land in person, standing at the historical sites, and breathing the same air where countless revolutionary martyrs once fought, I finally turned textbook knowledge into real, heartfelt emotions. Every scene, every relic, and every historical story became vivid, touching, and deeply rooted in my mind. Throughout the modern and comfortable journey, our team enjoyed convenient transportation, safe accommodation, and sufficient food. Even with such excellent conditions, many participants, including myself, still felt exhausted after just seven days of traveling. This simple contrast made me endlessly admire the extraordinary willpower of the Red Army soldiers. They completed the 25,000-li Long March that lasted two whole years, with no smooth roads, no warm clothes, no sufficient food, and countless life-threatening obstacles. Countless ordinary young soldiers devoted their precious lives to this tough journey. It is their selfless dedication and fearless sacrifice that built today’s peaceful, stable, and prosperous China.
During the journey, we visited numerous well-preserved historical revolutionary sites. In Guizhou, we toured the Zunyi Conference Memorial Hall, where I witnessed the simple environment in which great leaders gathered to rescue the revolutionary cause from severe crisis. It was during this trip that I truly witnessed and understood the incredible leadership of Mao Zedong, a figure I have been independently studying and admiring for the past two years. Through self-learning Mao Zedong Thought, I have always respected his strategic wisdom, revolutionary vision, and profound people-centered philosophy, but this immersive activity allowed me to feel firsthand what kind of selfless, courageous, and devoted leader he truly was. Chairman Mao Zedong was a leader who completely dedicated his life to serving the people. He possessed extraordinary foresight, unshakable determination, and pure selflessness. In every desperate and critical moment of the revolution, he never prioritized personal gain, safety, or comfort. Instead, he constantly adjusted strategies, united people from all walks of life, and insisted on moving forward solely for the hope, survival, and future of ordinary citizens. His leadership was never based on power, but on genuine love, responsibility, and sacrifice for his people. Witnessing the historical sites and stories in person deepened my admiration for his noble character and timeless revolutionary spirit. Most importantly, this journey allowed me to truly understand the spirit and nobility of the Red Army. They were sincere guardians of ordinary people.
During their march, they maintained strict discipline, never disturbed civilians, and actively helped local residents. Their kindness, selflessness, and people-centered spirit shocked and inspired me profoundly. Standing on Liupanshan Mountains
in Ningxia, reading Chairman Mao’s famous poem on-site further helped me grasp the optimism, fearlessness, and grand vision that carried the revolution through countless hardships. The Red Army’s extreme perseverance, powerful unity, fearless dedication, and sincere patriotism form the timeless Long March Spirit. It is no longer merely past history, but a profound life lesson for every modern youth. It is a precious spiritual treasure belonging not only to China but also to the whole world. I deeply admire Edgar Snow, who recorded these true stories and spread China’s revolutionary stories globally, inspiring international youth like me to continue sharing authentic Chinese stories with the world. The historical Long March has ended, but the new Long March of our generation has just begun. Living and studying in China, I hold deep reverence for this nation’s history and development. I will cherish the peaceful life created by revolutionary predecessors, inherit the timeless Long March Spirit, and integrate perseverance, unity, fearlessness, and responsibility into my growth. In the future, as a bridge builder between China and Africa and a future youth leader of my country, I will carry forward this precious spirit, overcome difficulties bravely, take on social responsibilities, and strive to bring positive change, progress, and lasting development to my motherland and the global community.
