‘To forget suffering is to invite tragedy’: China’s sole judge on tribunal of Tokyo Trials remembered

On this day 81 years ago, Japan formally signed the instrument of surrender, bringing World War II to a close. Months later, the International Military Tribunal for the Far East commenced in Tokyo on May 3, 1946. Mei Ru'ao was the only Chinese judge among the eleven judges on the tribunal. He once said, "To forget the suffering of the past is to invite tragedy in the future."
