Zisun tea, a traditional specialty of Changxing county in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, is finding new markets through a range of food and lifestyle products.

Since 2023, Qimeng Culture, a local creative team, has been developing products using the tea, a nationally recognized geographical indication product. Its offerings include craft beer, milk tea, scented products, mooncakes, and flavored snake gourd seeds.

One recent creation is Zisun tea-flavored snake gourd seeds, developed with local entrepreneur Qian Xin. Two batches have already sold out, while one customer has ordered another 25 kilograms.

Other products are also successfully reaching consumers. More than 6,000 Zisun tea mooncakes were produced and shipped within half a month. Tea-based drinks are being sold at a cultural and sports service station at the Changxing Sports Center, while seven scented products are now available at local hotels, homestays, and Qimeng's own stores.

Qimeng has brewed more than 50 metric tons of Zisun tea-flavored craft beer over the past three years. It took more than three months of testing to balance the tea's aroma and bitterness.

The initiative also provides a market for local tea growers, as Qimeng purchases fresh tea leaves and processed tea from farmers. Through its product development efforts, it has helped 12 local farming households increase their income by more than 20,000 yuan ($3,004) each.
