The 2026 Green and Low-Carbon Innovation Conference was held in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, on Aug 15 and 16, bringing together representatives of international science and technology organizations, academicians and experts, and representatives of national societies and research institutions.

Since 2022, the conference has evolved from an annual forum for exchanging ideas into a platform connecting research, technological application, and international cooperation.

One focus was the application of green technologies. At Xisai Science Valley in Huzhou, a 2-megawatt, 600 C centrifugal ultra-high-temperature heat-pump energy-storage system has begun operating. The system converts surplus electricity into heat energy, which can be stored and used to produce steam for industrial applications.

The conference also released the Blue Book on Green and Low-Carbon Development Technologies in China's Industrial Sector. The book covers eight energy-intensive industries and five cross-cutting areas, and outlines key approaches to low-carbon technology. It also assesses technological maturity, retrofit costs, and emissions-reduction potential.

International cooperation has expanded as well. The South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions participated as a guest organization for the first time. Zhejiang representatives also plan to participate in side events at COP31 in Turkiye, sharing local practices in low-carbon development.
