Zhejiang Museum's first branch, the Xianju County Museum, opened to the public on Aug 12 in Xianju county, Taizhou, Zhejiang province.

Themed "A Place Where Immortals Dwell," the museum features three sections tracing Xianju's history, poetry, and everyday life. It displays 933 artifact sets, including 143 pieces on loan from Zhejiang Museum, with 13 designated as first-grade cultural relics.

Covering nearly 10,000 square meters, the museum presents Xianju's cultural heritage, ranging from geological changes and the 10,000-year-old Xiatang Site to its millennium-old history and local intangible cultural heritage, such as Xianju frameless lanterns.

The museum also uses immersive scenes and interactive multimedia to make history more accessible and engaging.

As Zhejiang Museum's first county-level branch, the Xianju museum received support with exhibition design, artifact loans, and operations. The initiative aims to bring high-quality cultural resources and public services to county-level communities while combining Zhejiang Museum's expertise with Xianju's rich local heritage.

The two museums will also exchange research resources and collections, establishing a collaborative model between provincial and county-level museums.
