During its invasion of China, Japan waged an insidious drug war across the country. The Chinese Version of the Transcripts of the Proceedings of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East quotes the prosecution as stating: “The opium and narcotic traffic was sponsored by Japan for two purposes: first, to weaken the stamina and undermine the will to resist on the part of the Chinese people; second, to provide substantial revenues to finance Japanese military and economic aggression.”

This year marks the 81st anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. As we revisit the Tokyo Trials, let us remember history and cherish peace.
