China and Central and Eastern European countries are looking to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, and green energy as a major innovation conference opened in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, on Sept 9.

Over 450 policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and young innovators are attending the 2026 China-CEEC Conference on Innovation Cooperation, co-hosted by China's Ministry of Science and Technology and Slovakia's Ministry of Economy.

The meeting marks 10 years since the conference was launched. It is focusing on where science and technology partnerships could go next.

Eleven agreements between universities, research institutions, and businesses were signed at the opening, covering joint research and innovation platforms.

A new report reviewing a decade of China-CEEC innovation cooperation was also released, alongside an index measuring innovation links between Chinese cities and CEE countries.

Representatives later discussed priorities for cooperation through 2030 at a ministerial meeting on science and technology.

The three-day event, held across Ningbo and Nanjing in Jiangsu province, also brings researchers and companies together for discussions on AI and robotics, biotech, and green energy.
