Huzhou, a city in East China's Zhejiang province, gained international attention as the sole representative of prefecture-level cities from China at the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The conference, held from Nov 10 to 21 in Brazil, featured Huzhou's keynote speech at the China Pavilion side event on Nov 12, focusing on international cooperation for climate change response and green low-carbon transition.

The Huzhou delegation shared four compelling stories — transforming a former mining pit into a popular tourist spot, driving carbon reduction through carbon trading, turning bamboo into a green economic asset, and boosting rural vitality through entrepreneurship.

These narratives underscored Huzhou's commitment to sustainable development and green industry practices.

Additionally, the event showcased the ecological civilization promotional film Endless Vitality: Huzhou's Path, and Huzhou's bamboo-based souvenirs were a hit among participants.

This marks Huzhou's third appearance at a UN climate change conference. Known as the birthplace of the national development concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", the city has consistently prioritized ecological preservation and green growth, achieving a balance of environmental beauty, industrial prosperity, and quality of life.

Previously, Huzhou was conferred the titles of "International Cooperation Demonstration Zone of Ecological Civilization" and "Biodiversity Charming City" at COP15.
