Jinhua youth wins top honors at intl percussion competition

Luo Chenxuan, a young musician from Wuyi county in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, secured first place in the percussion category at the 21st Jeju International Brass & Percussion Competition in South Korea, highlighting the talent of Jinhua's youth on a global stage.

Established in 2000 and part of the World Federation of International Music Competitions since 2009, the Jeju competition is prestigious in the percussion field. This year, 71 competitors from around the world participated, making the contest highly competitive.

When announced as the winner, Luo reflected on the countless hours spent refining his skills. His musical journey began at six, guided by his mother as he learned piano and jazz drumming, with his passion for rhythm leading him to explore percussion further.

Professor Ludwig Albert, chair of the competition's percussion committee, commended Luo's performance, noting his exceptional technical skills, emotional depth, and stage presence, which reflect the qualities of a mature artist.

From Wuyi to the international stage, Luo's dedication remains strong. He said he sees this victory as a new beginning and aims to share the story of Chinese youth in percussion on more global platforms.
