National 'quyi' competition to showcase Chinese culture in Taizhou's Luqiao

A national-level quyi (a collection of storytelling, crosstalk, and singing) event will bring top young performers to the Ten-Mile Long Street commercial area in Luqiao district, Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, from July 17 to 19, allowing residents to enjoy high-quality traditional performances close to home.

The event will feature over 10 renowned quyi masters as guest performers, alongside 100 talented young artists from over 30 provinces across the country competing on the same stage. Covering 56 quyi forms from both northern and southern China, the programme will include 32 high-quality performances and over 150 original and classic works. 

Unlike traditional performances in enclosed theatres, the event utilizes two main outdoor stages and one indoor venue at the Luqiao Quyi Hall‌, used for three programme categories of new works, classics, and highlights. The commercial area also designs specific tourism attractions such as photo spots, poster walls, and interview zones. With each step, visitors encounter a new scene. 

Luqiao's original Taizhou Guci Opera Family Reunion will be performed on two main outdoor stages as the sole work from Taizhou to enter the competition. Based on the true story of local police officer Ke Weili's search for his family and their eventual reunion, the work showcases the charm and contemporary resonance of Luqiao's representative intangible cultural heritage.
