Volunteers transported Spring Festival supplies to elderly residents living atop Yejia Mountain in Shaoxing on the morning of Feb 3.
Starting from Shuangye village in Xialyu town, Keqiao district, volunteers used three mules to carry soy sauce, rice vinegar, fermented tofu, and other Spring Festival gifts up a steep 1,046-step mountain path. Yejia Mountain rises more than 470 meters above sea level and is home to a small number of elderly residents. The trip was organized by Ji Guomiao, chairman of Zhejiang Songshengyuan Food Co, together with several volunteer teams.
Fewer than 30 households of elderly residents still live in the village. Due to the rugged terrain, transporting supplies has always been a challenge.
At the mountaintop top village, volunteers distributed gifts to more than 20 elderly residents who had been waiting. The seniors received the heavy gift boxes with bright smiles. Afterward, the volunteers also visited families of veterans from the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53), low-income households, and elderly individuals living alone.
This initiative was not only a pre-festival welfare event but also a reflection of local enterprises actively fulfilling their social responsibilities.
In Keqiao, collaborative efforts between enterprises and multiple stakeholders to promote common prosperity are deepening. The scene of mules climbing the mountain to deliver warmth is a vivid portrayal of mutual support and shared progress across this land.
