The ninth Cross-Strait Youth Development Forum opened in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Friday, attracting more than 1,000 guests and young people from the mainland and Taiwan.
Song Tao, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said the mainland will continue to create more opportunities for young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to pursue their aspirations and contribute to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and the cause of national reunification.
He encouraged young people to set ambitious goals, shoulder the responsibilities of the new era, build consensus on safeguarding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, promote exchanges and integrated development, carry forward Chinese culture, and contribute to national rejuvenation.
Wang Hao, Party secretary of Zhejiang province, said the province will continue implementing measures to deepen cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation by improving cooperation platforms, enhancing public services and fostering a world-class innovation ecosystem.
He said Zhejiang will support young people from Taiwan in pursuing careers on the mainland while encouraging closer exchanges and cooperation between youth from both sides of the Strait.
Hung Hsiu-chu, former chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang and chairwoman of the Chinese Cyan Geese Peace Education Foundation, said young people on both sides of the Strait share the same cultural roots and jointly inherit Chinese civilization.
She expressed hope that they would overcome prejudice, strengthen exchanges, work together to safeguard peace and contribute to a brighter future for the Chinese nation.
During the forum, participants will take part in study camps and exchange activities in the Zhejiang cities of Ningbo, Wenzhou and Huzhou.
