A batch of "Nian" humanoid robots, each standing 60 centimeters tall and weighing about 1.5 kilograms, has rolled off the assembly line at Lingtong Robotics' manufacturing base in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, entering partial trial production.
The robot can stand upright, perform body movements, and interact through voice commands.
The project is currently focused on reliability testing, with an expected annual production capacity of 10,000 units once fully operational, according to the base's manager.
Unlike many larger humanoid robots, Lingtong Robotics focuses on compact "desktop-level" embodied humanoid robots designed for emotional companionship. The company received positive market feedback during the presale of "Nian" last year.
Founder Lu Jie said the company chose emotional interaction as a more practical entry point for humanoid robots to enter households, as fully capable general-purpose humanoid robots still face technological challenges.
After years of research, the company developed what it says is the world's smallest torque joint servo, measuring just 6 to 7 millimeters in diameter. The robot integrates 30 self-developed miniature torque joint servos, enabling 30 degrees of freedom and a range of human-like movements.
The product also serves as an open platform, allowing users to customize its appearance, personality, and movements through software tools.
The project has attracted investment from several leading institutions and is expected to accelerate toward mass production.
