Zhoushan Putuoshan International Airport in East China's Zhejiang province has put its integrated solar-storage-charging project into service, marking a new step in the airport's green and low-carbon development.

The project is the first renewable energy demonstration project at an airport in Zhejiang to extend distributed photovoltaic facilities to the airfield. It has achieved three firsts at the provincial level: the highest share of photovoltaic power in total airport electricity consumption, the largest photovoltaic energy storage capacity among airports, and the first airport in Zhejiang equipped with an integrated solar-storage-charging microgrid system.

Launched in June 2025 by the airport and Zhejiang Airport Financial Leasing, the project is designed to balance aviation safety and clean energy development. The airport has conducted detailed assessments of the potential impacts of solar facilities, adopted low-reflectivity double-glass photovoltaic modules, and optimized layouts to ensure safe aircraft operations.

The project integrates a 1.41-megawatt distributed photovoltaic system, raising the airport's total installed photovoltaic capacity to 1.97 MW across the airfield, parking areas, and office buildings. It is also equipped with seven energy storage units having a combined capacity of 1.827 megawatt-hours and 10 fast-charging stations for passenger vehicles and airport service vehicles.

The system is expected to generate more than 2.1 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity, saving about 670 metric tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,680 tons each year.
