Global Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Healthcare Security Innovation Scenarios Contest was officially launched in Hangzhou on June 16, according to a press conference. This cutting-edge event, themed "Thought into Achievement, BCI into the Future" is now open for registration to research teams, innovative enterprises, and entrepreneurial projects worldwide.

BCI is one of the most transformative frontier technologies nowadays. In 2026, BCI was included in the Chinese government work report for the first time and designated as one of six future industries to be cultivated and developed.

The competition closely follows the industrial orientation of civilian application and universal accessibility, adopting non-invasive brain-computer interface as the mainstream technological pathway. It features six competition categories, including brain-controlled drones, brain-controlled sports wheelchairs, brain-controlled robotic arm transport, brain-controlled robotic dogs and brain-controlled typing speed, as well as two scenario application categories: health monitoring and early warning, and functional rehabilitation and intelligent care.

In addition, dedicated exhibitions are set up for frontier technological breakthroughs and innovative entrepreneurial projects, covering diverse fields such as rehabilitation aids, health monitoring, physical and mental regulation, and human-computer interaction. Evaluation criteria do not solely focus on technical parameters; instead, the competition emphasizes clinical adaptability, scenario practicality, and public accessibility.

Medical insurance empowerment will run throughout the entire competition. By integrating government, enterprise, medical, and research resources, the competition aims to bridge the full chain from fundamental research, technological breakthroughs, clinical trials, and medical insurance access to industrial development. It will deeply mine the value of medical and health big data, and leverage clinical practices and application case studies to build a new development model of "frontier intelligent technology + smart medical insurance + comprehensive health services," accelerating the transition of BCI from the laboratory to clinical application and from a technological concept to public welfare.

The competition is jointly hosted by National Healthcare Security Administration and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, and organized by Hangzhou Municipal People's Government, the Big Data Center of National Healthcare Security Administration, and Zhejiang Provincial Healthcare Security Administration. Zhejiang University is leading the track design and evaluation. The official website (https://bci.ybj.zj.gov.cn) is now open for registration. It is reported that the preliminary rounds and outstanding project exhibitions will be held in August, with the finals and award ceremony scheduled for September.
