Huzhou's green lifestyle initiatives have been featured in the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) newly released technical report, ISO/TR 37115-1:2026, the world's first standard for zero-carbon cities.

The report focuses on practical examples and strategies for sustainable urban development, particularly in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in cities and communities.

Led by the China National Institute of Standardization, in collaboration with the Huzhou municipal science and technology bureau and other entities, the standard compiles 20 exemplary cases from 11 countries, including China, France, South Korea, Brazil, and Italy. It addresses 10 main topics, including energy, construction, transportation, circular economy, and carbon sinks in agriculture and forestry.

The standard highlights Huzhou's innovative digital platforms, which establish a carbon points system to encourage residents' participation in green travel, waste sorting, and energy conservation.

These eco-friendly actions are quantified into "carbon points", redeemable for shopping discounts and public services, transforming abstract low-carbon concepts into tangible, participatory, and incentivized daily actions. The practice offers a useful model for global cities exploring green governance.

In recent years, Huzhou has continued to advance as a national pilot zone for sustainable development, making progress in green finance, green manufacturing, and low-carbon lifestyles. The city has introduced mechanisms like "green points" to incorporate behaviors such as green consumption, low-carbon travel, and food conservation into its rewards system, encouraging broad public participation in green development.
