Shaoxing has secured the hosting rights for the Global Observance of World Cleanup Day 2026, as announced at the 13th World Urban Forum on May 19 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Shi Huifang, Party secretary of Shaoxing, outlined the city's progress in urban development and governance, and invited participants to attend this year's event in September, which will explore how anti-food waste efforts can contribute to cleaner cities.

The opening ceremony of the cleanup day event will include a conference about the global cleaning initiative, a worldwide relay, and the release of a progress report. There will also be two exhibitions during the event, and will showcase achievements in urban cleanliness and environmental sanitation, highlighting practical cases in food conservation, waste sorting, resource recycling, and the application of smart technologies.
Guests will be divided into three field visit groups to gain an understanding of the city's current ecological construction. The event will also feature four forums to foster discussions on topics such as reducing food loss and promoting sustainable urban development.

By hosting this international event, the city aims to showcase its urban landscape and green governance approach, while fostering ecological exchanges and collaboration between China and the rest of the world.
