Interactive cultural activities were held during the opening ceremony. A specialty coffee tasting area was set up on site, where professional Brazilian baristas guided guests to savor coffee with diverse regional flavors. Fun coffee knowledge quizzes were also organized, with winners receiving exclusive cultural and creative souvenirs from the Coffee Museum.
May 18 is International Museum Day, whose 2026 theme is "Museums Uniting a Divided World". Originating from ancient Eastern civilizations and thriving across Latin America respectively, silk and coffee have long served as vital links connecting the world throughout human history. This exhibition fully embodies the core spirit of the theme.
Back in October 2025, China National Silk Museum staged exhibition Silk Connects Mountains to Seas: from China to Brazil at Immigration Museum in Sao Paulo, marking the first large-scale special exhibition showcasing Chinese silk culture in Brazil. The Institut of Preservation and Dissemination of the History of Coffee and Immigration, operator of both Immigration Museum and the Coffee Museum, offered strong support as a core partner. Following Chinese silk’s display in Brazil in 2025, Brazilian coffee now pays a return visit to Hangzhou in 2026. Such two-way cultural exchanges have deepened mutual understanding between the two peoples and written a splendid chapter for the China-Brazil Cultural Year.
Winston Alexander Silva, Deputy Consul-General of Brazil in Shanghai, said in an interview, “Coffee is part of Brazilian culture. There is a change in cultural habits in China going on right now and we know that the coffee consumption is growing fast. We are eager to strengthen multi-field cooperation with China, build new communication bridges, boost bilateral trade and investment, and further promote cultural exchanges. Zhejiang province is currently working closely with Brazil, and such friendly partnership will last steadily into the future.”
The Exhibition will run from May 20 to June 21, 2026.
