As the graduation season arrives, anxiety has intensified among the graduates to be. Yet, anxious looks cannot be seen on the face of Luo Xiaoying, a ZJU student of mixed Chinese and Brazilian blood. Luo has received offers from several internationally renowned universities and is now on an internship with a well-known Internet enterprise. What is her secret?

Luo’s mother is from China’s Sichuan Province, her father is a Brazilian. The cheerful disposition of a Sichuan woman and the passion of a Brazilian contributes to the outgoing character of Luo. She has skillfully mastered three languages, i.e., Chinese, English and Portuguese, and has been learning French recently.

Not long ago, she received offers of master programs from several internationally reputed universities including HEC-Yale M2M, Cornell Master of Management in Hospitality, LBS Master in Management, Columbia Master of Science of Real Estate Development, Duke Master of Management Studies, all are enviable to her classmates. Luo finally decided to choose the HEC-Yale M2M program.

After entering the mixed class of science and engineering of Chu Kochen Honors College, she had to study a series of daunting courses, which was not easy. For every class, she would go to the classroom early and listened attentively during the class and often consulted the teachers in and outside the classroom.

When Luo went back to her dorm, she would discuss with roommates modestly on the questions she did not understand. She got an impressive GPA every year.

Luo learned about tourism management from a senior studying Earnings Management at Cornell University. With basic knowledge of math, being willing to deal with people, and having linguistic competency, all these factors taken into consideration, Luo decided to choose the major of Tourism Management in her sophomore year.

Four years of theoretical and practical studies have significantly improved her expertise and comprehensive abilities, enabling Luo to better understand the business know-how required by a hotel. Meanwhile, she has become clearer in the direction of further education – management.

To Luo, learning cannot stay on pages, what is more important is to train yourself through practice. Apart from learning, she has also acquired rich experience by participating in various club activities and internships.

She has shown attentiveness towards every chance in life. She has consulted the teachers constantly on tourism planning and hotel investment, thus left a deep impression on them. Teachers would recommend good practice programs for her.

“If you take the initiatives to do things, opportunities will come to you spontaneously. Cherish the resources of the school and the warm support from selfless teachers,” said Luo.
