The "Encountering Art in Dongsha" Jiaxing Translation Talent Cross-Cultural Exchange was held on March 24 at Dongsha Contemporary Art Center in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, featuring multilingual translators and international volunteers from the United States, Canada, Nigeria, and Pakistan.
Focusing on art and translation as bridges for cross-cultural communication, the event aimed to promote Jiaxing's local art on the international stage.
Gu Shengqing, founder of the Dongsha Contemporary Art Center, shared his journey of establishing the venue and developing international art projects. Translators then provided live translations of the venue's key exhibits. International volunteers engaged in discussions, exploring art terms, cultural imagery, and regional expressions, fostering a rich cultural exchange between Chinese and international participants.
Following the discussions, a salon was held on the international dissemination of local art, centering on the challenges of translating contemporary Jiaxing art, including the use of specialized art terminology and cultural expressions, and exploring collaborative pathways for translators and international volunteers to help promote Jiaxing's local arts globally.
This event not only deepened translators' understanding but also provided valuable experience for promoting local culture worldwide. The city's municipal foreign affairs office plans to continue this series of events to enhance the city's translation talent.
