Fang Haolong, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress and Party chief of Lizu village in Houzhai subdistrict, Yiwu, has been focusing on how successful rural development models can be replicated more widely.
Born and raised in the countryside, Fang said he has a strong personal understanding of the importance of common prosperity.
During the Spring Festival holiday, Yiwu received about 4.31 million tourist visits, generating tens of billions of yuan in related output. Lizu village alone recorded daily flows of between 8,000 and 10,000 tourist visits, Fang said.
Beyond the tourism boom, he said, what matters most is rising incomes for villagers. Fang said that the village organizes teams to maintain traffic order and encourages residents to participate in market stalls and displays.
The village has also attracted more than 200 young entrepreneurs, including business owners, designers, and livestreaming teams. Their arrival has brought new vitality and business models to the rural community.
Yiwu is home to more than 30,000 long-term foreign traders. In recent years, entrepreneurs from countries including Spain have also settled in Lizu village, creating a distinctive blend of international culture and rural life.
