The No 5 main tower of Xihoumen Highway-Railway Bridge, part of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway project, reached completion with the final concrete poured into the mold on Dec 30 in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.
The tower was completed three months ahead of schedule and marked the first bridge tower to be topped off along the entire railway route.
The bridge connecting Jintang Island and Cezi Island in Zhoushan is a key control point for Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway. It spans 3,118 meters, with a 1,488-meter main span, and adopts a cable-stayed suspension structure.
Xihoumen Highway-Railway Bridge has two main towers, with tower No 5 rising 294 meters. It is a reinforced concrete structure shaped like the letter "A". This wide-base, narrow-top configuration forms a stable triangular support system that disperses the bridge load and enhances wind and seismic resistance.
The Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway extends 77 kilometers, connecting Ningbodong Railway Station with Yinzhou and Beilun districts and crossing multiple waterways before reaching Zhoushan. Upon completion, the project will be a key addition to Zhejiang's high-speed rail network, enhancing regional connectivity, tourism, and integration.
