Hangzhou has put into operation the country's first outdoor robot testing and training ground in Shuangpu town, with robots from nine companies already undergoing pilot testing since it opened on Oct 24, according to the Hangzhou humanoid robot pilot base.

Located at the Zhijiang Robotics Service Headquarters — home to the Yangtze River Delta's first humanoid robot pilot base — the facility supports the full innovation chain from R&D and testing to training and application. Robots from Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Beijing are being trialed on site.

The core outdoor testing area spans 4,600 square meters and extends into surrounding mines, factories and natural terrain, offering real-world scenarios such as wilderness exploration, urban environments, industrial inspections and emergency rescue. Robots must pass rigorous benchmarks, from stair climbing to 24/7 continuous operation, before "graduation".

The base is the only outdoor robot testing ground of its kind in East China, designed to expose robots to real environmental conditions such as rain, heat and complex terrain, accelerating their readiness for real-world deployment.
