The large audiovisual sector in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, is gaining momentum as locally produced short dramas and advanced audiovisual technologies reach overseas markets and drive industrial upgrading.
The two-minute-per-episode short drama Zhao Shi Lu, with 28 episodes in total, has attracted nearly 200 million views on short-video platforms in the United States, the United Kingdom, Thailand, and other markets. The series was produced by Jiu Zhou Wen Hua, a company based in Jiaxing. The company's self-developed overseas platforms now cover about 200 countries and regions, exporting more than 300 online dramas this year, a 50 percent increase year-on-year.
Driven by companies such as Jiu Zhou Wen Hua, Jiaxing has positioned the large audiovisual sector as a key engine for integrated development combining culture, technology, and digital applications. In the first three quarters, major enterprises in the sector generated 42.09 billion yuan ($5.97 billion) in revenue.
Manufacturing is at the heart of the industry. Jiaxing's audiovisual manufacturing has expanded from traditional display panels and electronic components to emerging areas such as wearable devices.
Cross-sector integration is extending applications to tourism, education, and live streaming. In Xiuzhou district, visitors use VR devices in a renovated historical granary to experience immersive scenes, while digital performers host virtual concerts.
Jiaxing aims to form a complete industrial chain and surpass one trillion yuan in output within three years.
