Wuyi County Vocational and Technical School in Wuyi county, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, presented the traditional Chinese art of Wuju Opera at the 2026 Festival du Livre de Paris in the French capital on April 18 (local time).
The performers, consisting of six students averaging 16 years old, dazzled the audience in a performance spanning just over eight minutes with their graceful movements and exceptional singing, capturing the unique charm of this intangible cultural heritage.
"This performance highlights our school's achievements in Wuju Opera education and showcases the spirit of China," explained Xu Feng, the school's Party secretary.
The Festival du Livre de Paris, formerly known as the Paris Book Fair, was established in 1981. It is a major public cultural event held every spring in the city.
In March, Wuyi County Vocational and Technical School was chosen for the Chinese Vocational Education Intangible Cultural Heritage Teaching Achievements Exhibition — one of the festival's supporting events, becoming the only vocational school from Zhejiang selected.
"This experience was enriching, enhancing our skills while allowing us to learn from other countries' theatrical traditions," said Zuo Yingle, one of the performers.
During the visit, the school engaged with local institutions, establishing potential partnerships. Future collaborations will include both student and teacher exchanges and curriculum development, furthering international channels to spread awareness of Wuju Opera, according to Xu.
