A recent shipment of nearly 200 metric tons of citrus fruits from Jucheng Citrus Cooperative in Qujiang district, Quzhou, Zhejiang province, has been cleared by Quzhou Customs and is scheduled for export to North Korea.

Quzhou, a major citrus-producing region in China, has reported a 5 percent year-on-year increase in the export value of its citrus fruits for the 2025 season, reaching 7 million yuan ($1.03 million).

Quzhou's citrus fruits, particularly the renowned Ponkan variety, have gained popularity in international markets. An increasing number of growers and processing companies are stepping into overseas markets, including North Korea and Southeast Asian countries, with nine citrus farms and processing facilities in the city currently registered with customs.

"Citrus requires efficient customs clearance," said Zhang Zhilin, head of foreign trade at Jucheng Citrus Cooperative. "With the fast-track channel for fresh and perishable agricultural products, we can complete inspection and quarantine procedures the day after stocking."

To support local exports, Quzhou Customs has formed a specialized plant and animal quarantine team to monitor changes in domestic and international market requirements and promptly inform enterprises, helping them enhance quality control.

Quzhou Customs has also implemented appointment-based inspections, online issuance of inspection certificates, and convenient testing services, significantly reducing clearance times.
